Veteran Jazz Fusion/ Smooth Jazz keyboard legend returns with a laid-back album that veers more towards the smooth than Jazz Funk. Drummer Gary Novak and bassist Jimmy Haslip join Lorber in his trio. The album starts on a high with the breezy Jazz Funk of ‘Space-Time’ before settling into a smoother mode with the radio friendly ‘Back Room’. There is a nicely relaxed vibe to ‘Sunset Princess’ whilst ‘Memorex’ has a retro, early eighties Fusion feel. ‘Curiosity’ has a positive, bouncy rhythm that gives the tune an innate and appealing optimism. The funkier ‘Chick’, a tribute to fellow Jazz keyboards man Chick Corea, features a sprightly Hubert Laws on flute. The funkiest track is ‘Truth’ with its sleek groove, subtle riffs and infectious beat. A strong rather than an outstanding set, this instrumental set will appeal to his legion of fans.
