Excellent 33 track double CD or unreleased and rare tracks from this rich voiced star who recorded these cuts between 1963 and 1966. Early soul efforts have that unmistakeable sound – the skipping tempo of ‘deep Freeze’ blends jazz and soul elements, the plaintive ‘There’s Something On Your Mind’ has classic minor key changes while the swaggering ‘The Star’ is an unreleased Northern gem from ’64. The pick of the bunch though is the incredible, dark and atmospheric ‘Can’t Hold The Feeling Back’ – a pacey dancer that just oozes class. ‘Girl On The Run’ is lifting by the warm production and Brenda’s whispered vocals while the thumping ‘I Feel Your Love Growing On Me’ and ‘I’m Giving Up’ are both unreleased killer dancers from ‘66! There are no less than at least another six strong uptempo numbers here too for you discover. Real class – amazing how much quality was shelved!
