Jazzman’s excellent Spiritual Jazz series reaches volume 19 focusing on West Coast Usa Jazz from 1950’s to 1980’s, and possibly the most accessible volume to date, split into two sections.
Part 1 features Jazz from the 50’s and 60’s with some really excellent music amongst the 14 tracks, many with an Eastern influence. Highlights include Chico Hamilton Qt ft Buddy Collette ‘Blue Sands’ , Victor Feldman superb ‘New Delhi’ , Les McCann & The Jazz Crusaders ‘Damascus’ , Ken Jensen ‘Cheap Blue’ , Roy Haynes version of the often recorded ‘Wives And Lovers’ , Harold Land ‘Timetable’ and Curtis Amy/Dupree Bolton ‘Native Land’.
Overall this is quality laid back Spiritual and Modal Jazz , very relaxing and at times inspirational music.
