Finnish trumpeter Martti Vesala delivers an edgy and compulsive set. ‘Compulsion’ starts in fine post Bop grooving style, whilst the easy sounding flowing ‘Stars Aligned’ is a joyful upbeat affair. The intricate ‘Murder Of Crows’ is another strong post Bop composition as is the dreamy and sparse ‘The Lost Sea’. Vesala’s trumpet tone is rich and warm, reminiscent at times of Freddie Hubbard or Eddie Henderson. Very strong album.
