Roy’s ‘Hard Groove’ was one of THE albums of 2003, and ‘Strength’ carries on magnificently where that masterpiece left off. Trumpeter Roy is fast establishing himself as the funkiest jazz man of his generation (like Herbie in the 70’s). 6 tracks of tough, funk jazz grooves, highlighted by ‘For Fun’ featuring Omar, the soulful almost two stepper title track, the Incognito-ish party dancer ‘Universe’ and the Afro beat ‘Rich Man’s Welfare’.
