Debut album from a new name to us, the soft, clear voiced soulstress Katherine Penfold delivers really nice soul album in the shape of ‘Sweetest Thing’. The catchy opener ‘Unapologetic’ is textbook new soul that draws on all the best of the past, the lazy sway of ‘Far Away’ allows the track to slowly trickle down while the sultry ‘Better’ has touches of Southern. The title track finds her voice with a slight jazz lilt, she funks out on the sassy ‘Tell The World’ while she saves the best for last on the gorgeous crossover closing track ‘You Know The Way I Feel’. Old school soul sensibilities from a fresh new voice. Good stuff.
