Good new Italian Jazz album from drummer Marco Valeri and his quartet. Their style is the Deeper and Darker shade of classic 60’s Blue Note/Impulse modal jazz. ‘L.M.'(a tribute to lee Morgan ?) is a good Modal Jazz and their version of Elvin Jones and Jimmy Garrison ‘Half and Half’ is heavier than the original. ‘Danelle’ is another good intense track composed by Trumpet Daniele Tittarelli. The cover of Wayne Shorter’s ‘Prince of Darkness’ is if anything moodier than the original. Valeri’s compositions ‘The Apple’ and ‘Marquinho’ are slight lighter. This album is not immediate but their playing is excellent and it will reward those who invest the time to get into it.
