This intriguing album takes the vocals from many well known Soul and Jazz tracks and replaces the original backing with new lavish Samba and Bossa Nova instrumentation. It takes a little while to become accustomed to these tracks re-invented in this way, but there’s no denying that many of them really work. Bill Withers ‘Lovely Day’, Marvin Gaye ‘Sexual Healing’, Sly& The Family Stone ‘Family Affair’, Isley Brothers ‘It’s Your Thing’, Aretha Franklin ‘Walk On By’, Nina Simone ‘I Wish I Knew How it would feel to be free’ and Dave Brubeck and Carmen McRae ‘Take Five’ are amongst the twelve tracks.
