Something of an overlooked set Jimmy Ruffin released ‘Groove Guvenor’ on the Motown Soul subsidiary label in 1970 at a time when the imprint was hitting busy highs. The unmistakable pleading tones are in full effect especially on ‘Let’s Say Goodbye Tomorrow’, the bustling ‘If You Will Let Me I Know I Can’ and the swaying ‘Living In A World I Created For Myself’. ‘You Gave Me Love’, ‘Just Before Love Ends’ and the pounding ‘Gathering Memories’ are also strong highlights.
