It’s been a long wait for a new Corrine Bailey Rae album – not since 2010’s emotive ‘The Sea’ album has the sweet, whispy voiced songstress treated us to her work. The sorrow-filled plantiveness is still there on tracks like ‘Hey I Won’t Break Your Heart’, there’s a boogie swagger on the great 80’s tinged ‘Been To The Moon’ while the intimate ‘Stop Where You are’ is a beautiful, folk-soul melody. ‘Green Aphrodisiac’ is another mellow moment with a soul-jazz vibe shot through with early 70s sunshine. ‘The Skies Will Break’ is a great opener – full of tension and drama set to a 4/4 beat, ‘Horse Print Dress’ is a boogie groover that breaks out into full on dancefloor action while the ‘Walk On’ is a brooding head nodder. Good return.
