22a founder, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Ed ‘Tenderlonious’ Cawthorne laid his hands on on Tubby Hayes’ Piccolo after a chance sequence of events and the result is this outstanding re-interpretation of four classic Tubby Hayes tracks. The firey ‘Down In The Village’ is handled with a freshness that pays the utmost respect to the original, ‘Trenton Place’ from Hayes’ ‘Mexican Green’ set is a wonder ebbing, mellow gem while the pacier ‘Raga’ and the bustling ‘In The Night’ demonstrate that a new generation of jazz players are emerging ready to bring these timeless sounds to a whole new audience.
