Nicole Wray (formerly of the duet ‘Lady’ with Terri Walker) strikes out as a solo artist on the recently formed Big Crown imprint. ‘Do It Again’ has similar strains to the previous Lady project and is a stunning slice of early 70s styled NY soul, ‘Smilin’ has a good feel of tension between the lyric and the taut delivery, ‘Guilty’ is a stunning crossover number with a thumping beat, ‘In Love (Don’t Mess Things Up)’ is lead but an atmospheric acoustic guitar and has a wonderful stripped back feel while the slow, sass of ‘Make Me Over’, the hard groove of ‘Bad Girl’ and the stomping tempo of ‘let it Go’ also excel. Fine album.
