‘The Sorcerer’ was recorded live at the Jazz Workshop over two days in April 1967. It shows the Hungarian guitarist in all his majesty. The gypsy inspired magic can be heard on songs like ‘Louise’, the mystical ‘Mizrab’ and ‘The Beat Goes On’. ‘More Sorcery’ comes from the same session in part. And three tracks hail from a live performance at the Monterey Jazz Festival in September 1967. ‘Los Matadoros’ fuses flamenco with Jazz with intoxicating effect. ‘Corcovado’ is a delicate slow number that is truly hypnotic, whilst ‘Spellbinder’ mixes a deep Jazz bass and Latin percussion with Gabor Szabo’s folksy acoustic guitar.
