This CD was recorded live in 1976. Shaw’s band includes Louis Hayes on drums, Ronnie Matthews (piano), Stafford James (bass) and saxophonist Junior Cook. There are some incredible performances such as Shaw’s own ‘The Moontrane’, the fiery Latin ‘Books Bossa’, Matthews’ ‘Ichi-Ban’ and the intense ‘Invitation’. This is post-Bop 70’s straight-ahead Jazz that swings and swings hard with the imperious Shaw in top form. Exceptional.
