Laville is the first male solo artist to be signed to Acid Jazz since Jamiroquai and the hype surrounding him is justified on this varied ten-track album. The gentle, bluesy ‘Blood & Bone’ brings to mind Leon Bridges and Michael Kiwanuka, the string laden dancer ‘This City’ is an uplifting gem while the smooth ballad ‘The Answer’ is an impassioned message song. His cover of Bobby Caldwell’s classic ‘What You Won’t Do For Love’ is a true to the original while the uptempo nu-boogie of ‘Wavy’ shows another strand to his sound. Check out the slow bump of ‘Giants’ or the breezy ‘Thirty One’. Distinctive UK soul voice and a good album that grows with each play.
