Brian Bromberg is a fine acoustic/ electric bassist and with over 30 years as a leader, his discography is varied and impressive. ‘Thicker Than Water’ displays that diversity admirably. From the Fusion of ‘Is That The Best You Can Do’, the title track and ‘Minneapolis 1987’ to the smooth ‘Coupe De Ville’, this instrumental sets delivers. Playing 11 different basses, ‘Thicker Than water’ grooves harder than many of Bromberg’s albums. Guests include Randy Brecker, Najee, Everette Harp and the late great George Duke. Fine album that will appeal to Smooth Jazz fans and some Fusion fans too.
