Finnish soulman Bobby Oroza is backed by Timmion house band Cold Diamond & Mink on this superb debut album for the much admired Big Crown imprint. Lowrider ballads, heart break lyrics and uptempo funk edged dancers fill an album that will appeal to fans of Lee Fields, Durand Jones and those into vintage soul. The title track is a cavernous slowie drenched in sorrow that contrasts with the thumping dancer ‘Your Love Is Too Cold’ while the swirling organ fuelled ‘Shall I Take You Home’ has the vibe of early 60s teen romance grooves: on point both lyrically and in the beat. The tempo on the album is mainly set for listening and the raw, lo-fi feel works so well on beat ballads like ‘There Can Be No Love’ and ‘Alone Again’ while more uptempo numbers such as ‘Keep On Believing’ and the warmer vibe of ‘Lonely Girl’ offer a change of pace. Really good album that has the authentic feel of a Puerto Rican balladeer and band from New York circa 1968.
