Drummer Arthur Vint and his associates have made an interesting Jazz album on the Ropeadope label. ‘Through the Badlands’ brings visions of the vast American West through jazz interpretations. ‘Kindling’ is a percussive Jazz dancer with a groove topped by swirling violins and horns. ‘There’s a word’ starts as a full on driving groove with Rich Perry on sax and Jon Cowherd on Piano to the fore, then develops into another phase. ‘Shadow qualities’ is less energetic with a solid backdrop and nice keyboards, ‘Blue Praire’ is melancholy and ‘Radford’ an apt opener.
