Incognito legend Bluey Maunick returns with his solo album ‘Tinted Sky’ and the familikar, trademark polished, soulful jazzy funk is in full effect on this 11 track album that will delight his fans. His influences are evident – traces of Curtis Mayfield, Shuggie Otis and Boz Scaggs, Marvin Gaye and Hall and Oates abound – but the music is still typically and recognisably Bluey. Collaborator Richard Bull’s liquid bass propels each song along while Bluey’s soulful tenor and guitar grace each track. Themes of love and longing dominate: the slick boogie of ‘You Are The One’, the pacey ‘Nobody Knows’ and the wiry ‘Had To Make You Mine’ are strong dancers, the cosmic funk of ‘Nobody Knows’ is a winner as is the jazzy message song ‘Floating World’. Not one to shy away from a difficult theme ‘Unaware’ tackles the issue of knife crime in the Capital while the smoother ‘Back Here Again’ and the jazz funk of ‘Tinted Sky’ offer more contrast. Really strong album that grows with each play.

Bluey of incognito fame is off the cuff as ever subliming cd, still love the title track and the rich tapestry of his work interwoven with his formidable jazz funk style!
