These three albums on a double CD are Tom Scott’s strongest Jazz Fusion work. Tom Scott and the LA Express features the Crusaders’ Joe Sample and Larry Carlton. It has that earthy southern feel that the Crusaders were renowned for. Cuts like ‘Bless My Soul’ and the popular ‘Sneakin In The Back’ typify that style. ‘Tom Cat’ has a similar feel though cuts like ‘Good Evening Mr and Mrs America…’ and the catchy ‘Backfence Cattin’ have more of a mainstream Jazz funk vibe. ‘New York Connection’ has more of a CTI/ Tappan Zee feel since Bob James, Eric Gale, Steve gad and Ralph MacDonald feature. ‘New York Connection’ is case in point as is the funky ‘Dirty Old Man’.
