Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One return with the follow up to their 2015 debut and Tuxedo II picks up where they left off with that trademark West Coast, early 80s synth bass and analogue boogie groove. ‘2nd Time Around’ is an immaculately executed soulful disco number, as is the tough boogie of ‘Take A Picture’. ‘Rotational’ is an infectious mid tempo groover, ‘Shine’ sounds like it has been plucked straight out of an Atlantic Starr session circa 1982, ‘Back In Town’ is yet another irresistible dancer that takes everything good about turn of the 80s club sounds and filters it through the present day while ‘Special’ has a vibe that fans of this throwback sound will love. ‘Livin’ 4 Your Lovin’ picks up the pace and throws everything at the dancefloor – laser synths, a big rolling b-line and handclaps aplenty. Awesome stuff – these guys have got the throwback sound truly locked down. Fans of the Masterpiece/Nighttime Lovers series will love this – Tuxedo are the 80s retro kings!
