Twice As Nice
Marion Meadows is the master of mellow sax led Smooth Jazz. His extensive discography stretches back over thirty years and he has maintained remarkable consistency over that period. ‘On The Uptown’ will reinforce that reputation and please his fans. There is nothing new or startling, but it is full of good time grooves and tuneful melodies played immaculately. The title song has the silky smoothness of a Boney James tune, whilst ‘Lunchbox’ is slower and marginally heavier. The dreamy ‘Pandora’ is a highlight on which Paul Brown adds a Benson like guitar. There are several relaxed groove-based tunes like the catchy ‘Step To This’ and the infectious ‘Twice As Nice’. Meadows slows the tempo down on tracks like ‘Don’t Wait Up’ and the cover of ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’.
