Pianist Brian Simpson and guitarist Steve Oliver collaborate on what is a consummate instrumental Smooth Jazz album. ‘Unified’ is something of a throwback to the halcyon days of Smooth Jazz – late 90’s/ early noughties. The melodies are easy on the ear and the grooves foot tapping. ‘Like No Other’, ‘Café Du Monde’ and ‘Last Summer’ illustrate the infectious nature of the music that reflects that laid-back California sunshine vibe. Indeed, the first seven tunes (of 11) all convey that feel good factor. Quality album, though its appeal will be primarily to Smooth Jazz lovers.
