Jose James has a very distinctive vocal style and delivery, like a Jazzier incarnation of Gil Scott Heron. On his 4th album Jose mixes his normal hypnotic offbeat down tempo numbers like ‘U R The 1’, ‘Noble Truths’ and ‘Where You’ with some rockier numbers. The outstanding track though is an excellent cover of Al Green’s superb laid back ‘Simply Beautiful’ft Takuya Kuroda on trumpet.
