The Womack/ Sam Cooke legacy continues with a great new album on Daptone from the Womack Sisters, the daughters of Ceil and Linda Womack (Womack & Womack) and grand daughters of Sam Cooke. As you would expect with both their family and the label’s heritage , they have created a superb retro soul album that is likely to be amongst the best you will hear this year.
Trumpeter and keyboardist Nicholas Paton teams up with Butcher Brown for another outstanding album ‘Supreme Blue’ a very different contemporary take on Miles Kind Of Blue’ and John Coltrane ‘A Love Supreme’ celebrating the centenary of these two giants of Jazz. Glasgow based band Mamaterra come up with another strong Contemporary Jazz album ‘Inner Space’. Long time friend, Jazz dancer and DJ Perry Louis makes his first compilation ‘Shiftless Shuffle’ celebrating his long running jazz dance event, and a very good comp it is too. Earth Wind & Fire second Columbia album ‘Open Our Eyes’ gets a welcome vinyl reissue. There are a couple of very interesting Malaysian Jazz albums on the new Audible Beauty label, nice undiscovered tracks with an eastern feel.
