Dave Lee dons his Sunburst Band trousers and calls in the vocal talents of Wayne Hernandez with this slice of Brazilian flavoured Jazz Funk ‘Listen Love’ – yes the Jon Lucien jazz dance favourite. The sizzling drums & percussion blend perfectly with the pulsating bassline that allows Wayne to scat and weave his way into the blissed out yet uptempo jazzy keys. For those thinking this would be an even better track if it had a flute solo, we’ve got you covered! with Dave Lee’s ‘Flute Reboot’ for that maximum Latin edged jazz-funk feel. Some great remixes on this EP...
Stargazing from the sands of the Niterói beach, Tempos Futuros is low-end-led Brazilian futurism from one of Brazil’s most prolific and influential bassmen. As one third of legendary Brazilian trio Azymuth, Alex Malheiros has pioneered a unique fusion of space-funk, samba and jazz since the early seventies. His playing can be heard on the records of Jorge Ben, Milton Nascimento, Roberto Carlos, Marcos Valle, and Mark Murphy (to name a few), and he’s performed and toured with everyone from Stevie Wonder to Chick Corea. Written and recorded in Niterói, Brazil, overlooking Guanabara and the beaches, mountains and forests of Rio de Janeiro, Tempos...
Popcorn - Prime Choice Calvin "Popcorn" Ward put out just one album and a couple of EPs during the height of his musical career, which were held in particularly high esteem by Soul and Funk afficianados in Europe, less so in the states where his work generally remained canned, a few singles and a coverless version of Prime Choice appearing in very limited quantity. His only other notable musical appearance from the time was a vocal cameo for the disco group Passion on their self titled album on Prelude, appearing on the track Midnight Lovers. The album Prime Choice...
There’s A Riot Going On was Sly & The Family Stone’s answer to Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On?, the seminal Soul album that came out five months before the Sly Stone masterpiece. It’s a dark, earthy Funk album, that went straight to number 1 upon release. Single “Family Affair” also topped the charts, and is still one of Sly Stone’s most beloved tracks. It manages to capture the era of militant activism and deep social unrest in a brooding, moody album with tension that could cut through steel. It still appears on plenty of ‘Greatest Albums of All Time’ lists...

Survival Research present a reissue of West Coast Revival's self-titled album, originally released in 1977. Seattle-born preacher's son Luther James Rabb played sax with Jimi Hendrix in the Velvetones and after forming popular horns-based rock act Ballin' Jack, moved to Los Angeles, where soul harmony trio West Coast Revival was born. Early singles for United Artists were produced by Howard Scott and Lonnie Jordan of War, and their sole LP, released in 1977, is an exceedingly rare soul-funk gem, with solid vocal harmony, hard funk breaks, and a touch of sophisticated strings. "My Mind Is At Ease" is a breakbeat special and "Feelin' Allright" rides a meaty bass groove, both underlining the War...
