Acantha Lang from New Orleans releases her much anticipated independently produced debut album ‘Beautiful Dreams’ . It has that authentic 70’s Southern Soul sound with Horns, Funky Guitar licks and Fender Rhodes, topped by Acantha’s beautiful sweet soulful voice and is likely to be one of the best Soul albums of 2023. It is full of great meaningful songs, sung to perfection and great musicianship. ‘Sugar Woman’, ”Ride This Train’ and ‘Come Back Home’ are great mid tempo soul songs with punchy horn riffs. ‘Beautiful Dreams’ is a really nice Southern soul funky groove. ‘He Said She Said’ and ‘River Keep Running’ are hard-hitting funky Soul. ‘It’s Gonna be alright’ , ‘Whatever Happened To Our Love’ and the slightly slower tribute to her mother ‘Lois Lang’ are ‘Clean Up Woman’ style mid tempo funky soul. ‘Carry The Weight’ is a nice mid tempo ballad. In terms of this style of Soul music (like the Kim Tibbs set last year) this is as good as it gets in 2023.
