First time reissue of rare 1980 Japanese Jazz album from bassist Isao Suzuki & New Family, featuring Toshiyuki Honda on Sax and Flute Shigeharu Mukai on Trombone. ‘Mongolian Chant’ features five original Suzuki compositions, including the excellent 11 minute title track which has a driving bassline that propels the track and gives a foundation for some nice solos. ‘Joy’ is a spritely seven minute cut that reflects its title with nice flute work from Honda. ‘Falcon’ is a 13 minute opus with some really creative playing that goes through many changes but retains the interest throughout. Another nice obscure record reissued on Paul Murphy’s Jazz Room label with gatefold sleeve and text translated into English.
