Album Of The Day | Ronnie McNeir – Makes A Move

Ronnie McNeir’s debut album for RCA was released in 1972, produced by Mickey Stevenson. The 12 tracks (10 on LP) on ‘Makes A Move’ are from the same sessions but were unreleased at the time. ‘Let’s Make A Move’ is an uptempo semi funky groove that would appeal to the 70s Modern Soul scene.

‘I’m Sorry’ is a more straightforward modern soul dancer.  There is a nice version of the Temptations/Norman Whitfield ‘Girls Alright With Me’. ‘My Day Will Come’ is a nice mid tempo floater. ‘Say You’ starts off with the intro later used on ‘Summertime’, then develops into a nice upper mid tempo track. ‘Tell Your Mama’ is a good multi-paced track with great backing vocals from Hodges James & Smith. ‘Eastside Westside’ is an edgy mid paced groover. There are also two nice instrumentals ‘Ronnie’s Bag’ Part 1 and 2, illustrating his keyboard skills. Interesting album and great to hear these unreleased tracks at last.
