Best New Soul Releases of 2012

2012 was a good year for New Soul Releases with some great albums being released.  Big Brooklyn Red ‘Answer The Call’ was actually recorded in 2008 but only came out officially this year and is as killer album, Brooklyn’s voice resonates soulfulness and whilst the great modern soul dancer ‘Taking it Too Far’ has been the most revered track but it is a quality album throughout and well deserving to be our Soul album of the year.
Pete Belasco recorded one of the best laid back soul albums for a long time in Lights on , Jazzanova recorded an album live in the studio with a full band that
has bags of energy and quality. Angie Stone made her best for a decade, and Betty Wright and the Roots her best for several decades. Consistent performers IncognitoLeela JamesCool Million , Sunburst Band and Eric Benet all came up trumps with their releases. There were also good retro soul/funk albums from Ruby Velle and the Soulphonics and Martha high and Speedometer. The quantity of releases may have been down but the quality was definitely there.
