Lou Ragland – Is The Conveyor | Hot Chocolate – Hot Chocolate | Albums Of The Day

Another great rare soul album from Cleveland Ohio made in 1977. The beautiful modern soul mid tempo title track has great lyrics, and the modern/northern dancers ‘Since You Said You’d Be Mine’ and ‘What Should I Do’ are solid floor fillers. The ballad ‘Its Got To Change’ and the ‘Hi’ sounding ‘What Happened to The Feeling’ and ‘Just Being For You’ are well worth checking. This album was quoted by BBC Financial News website recently as being ‘The Best soul album you’ve never heard’

Hot Chocolate – Hot Chocolate

Cleveland Ohio’s Lou Ragland first album was with his group Hot Chocolate (not to be confused with the Uk artist of the same name). The album was recorded  in 1971 and only 500 copies were pressed. It was originally reissued by Soul Brother in 1999 and now Numero has produced a brown coloured vinyl version. It consists of raw funky gems like ‘Ain’t That A Groove’, ‘What You Want To Do’,’So Damn Funky’  and ‘Messing With Sly’ which could be compared with the contemporary recordings of The Meters. ‘What Should I Do’ and ‘We Had A True Love’ are nice sweet soul harmony ballads on this in demand and rare album.
