Maysa Leak has one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary soul music, having recorded as a solo singer and as lead female vocalist for Incognito for over 30 years. Maysa returns with a 19 track 2cd album ‘Music For Your Soul’ ,On her own Blue Velvet Soul label. She teams up with producer and keyboardist Chris ‘Big Dog’ Davis and other musicians to create a very enjoyable album. ‘Music For Your Soul’ , ‘Whatever’ are nice catchy mid tempo songs, Chris Walker co-wrote, produced and duets on the mid tempo R&B/Soul ‘Down With Me’. ‘Spirit 222’ has a different vibe, it features guitarist Chieli Minnuci and former Incognito percussionist Thomas Dyani Akuru. It starts off slowly for three minutes then builds into an uplifting groove. ‘Make Sure You’re Sure’ is nice laid back jazzy version of the Stevie Wonder song. ‘Just Stay’ Is a slow jam ft Dawn Tallman on background vocals. ‘I Don’t Mind’ is a good upper mid tempo groover co-wriiten and produced by Bluey and Damon Bennett who also plays keyboards and flute. ‘Runnin From Myself’ is an uptempo groove ft Tim Stewart on guitar and bass. Frank Mc Comb produced, co-wrote, plays keyboards and sings with Maysa on the excellent uptempo ‘His Love’. Mike City produced and wrote the soulful House groover ‘I Wanna Believe’ Noel Gourdin duets on the slow jam ‘Love Life’. Kirk Whalum plays sax on the gospel ‘Lord I Thank You’ and there is a good version of ‘You Know How To Love Me’. Maysa’s velvet vocals are the real highlight of this varied album, which will appeal to her many fans.
