New Releases, Reissues and Restocks | Friday 26th July

At the top of the list for new releases this week is the new album ‘Vortex’ from UK group Resolution 88. The album is a wonderful mix of jazz-funk/fusion, and in many ways seems like a tribute to those classic 70s albums we know and love but with a fresh approach, a stand out track being ‘Love Will Come Around’ featuring the stellar vocals of Vanessa Hayes. We have the new album from Cornell CC Carter on Expansion Records, a top album from one of the finest voices in contemporary soul, and also Bette Smith’s album Goodthing is now available on LP. Greg Foat is back with a beautiful album ‘Glass Frog’ plus a new album from Jimetta Rose and her vocal ensemble The Voices Of Creation’ for those into that big devotional sound. There is also a fantastic album from James Alexander Bright release on AOTN, a blend of 80s boogie sounds and nice soulful vocals.

As for the reissues, there is loads of great stuff, Jazzroom Records have put out a great album from jazz vocalist Frank Noviello. We also have two new releases on the Blue Note Classic Album series from Thad Jones and Cliff Jordon, and LPs from Gerry Mulligan/Ben Webster and Johnny Lytle. Lonnie Liston Smith’s ‘Astral Travelling’ gets a reissues on yellow as well as a 45 on Ace, plus there’s Millie Jackson’s ‘Feelin Bitchy’ and the first album from Wayne Shorter. Lots and lots of restocks of classic jazz and soul, featuring many titles that we have not seen for a while, Dinner Party, Whole Darn Family etc.

Make sure you check out the pre-order section for a brilliant run of new Expansion 45s, Meshell Ndegeocello, and Tone Poets!
