Firstly we are very sad to learn of the passing of many great Soul and Jazz artists in the past couple of weeks. Gwen McCrae made many great albums and singles and possessed an incredibly powerful voice and will be remembered for crucial tracks like ‘90% Of me Is You’ and ‘Keep The Fire Burning’ . Angie Stone was one of the queens of Neo Soul and gave us some great albums and will be best remembered for ‘Wish i Didn’t Miss You’ . Randy Brown made some great albums in the late 70s especially ‘Midnight Desire’ and his modern soul classic 45 ‘Always in the mood’.. Roberta Flack was a very unique singer and made many classics in the 70’s, her debut album ‘First Take’ probably being the strongest. All of these artists made their mark and have left us so great music but the most significant loss is of Roy Ayers who was a major figure in creating and establishing the Jazz-Funk sub genre and whose music was a major force in the rare groove movement and inspiration for many neo soul records, a fuller appreciation to follow.
There are some great reissues this week from Harlem River Drive, Joe Henderson , Les McCann on vinyl and some more of the Blue Note 85 HQ Cds and Eric Burdon and War on CD. Also we are back in stock of Bobby Harden’s geat album ‘Bridge Of love’ on CD in limited quantity.
