Cream of the crop is the new album from Jazzy Soul singer Rajdulari whose Journey of a woman sees her move more into soul territory than her excellent but jazzier Honey Wine set. The Dependable Eric Roberson , Algebra Blessett and Jennifer Holiday also have new soul albums. Resolution 88 is a superb Funky Jazz fusion set and we welcome the Italian Via Veneto label with 5 new albums and a couple of older ones from Mario Biondi's original backing band High Five. It's a massive week for reissues this week with great sets from Johnnie Taylor, Bettye Swann, Major Harris and Kleeer, four from Jeff Lorber and further volumes of the Nighttime lovers and Hall of Fame compilation series. There are some more quality releases this week, 2014 has started well for Soul and Jazz music. Randy Muller's Brooklyn Soul Biscuits album is finally available on CD and sounding really good. Robin McKelle has recorded a great album in Memphis . There are also good long overdue reissues from Samuel Jonathan Johnson, Woods Empire and Loleatta Holloway.
