Only one new album this week Afro Elements but what a great album it is, one of the best new Jazz Funk albums for a long time, also check out Citrus Sun out mid march which we are taking pre-orders for now. Great reissues this week from Barbara Mason, Michael Henderson, Gil Scott Heron , James Brown, Main Ingredient and many others. There are some nice vinyl LP reissues as well. This week is the best week for new releases for a while . Smooth Jazz fans will be delighted with new sets from Brian Culbertson, Chris Standring and Will Donato. Jose James appears on new Japanese Trumpeter Takuya Kuroda's 'Rising son' album which could well be one of the soul-jazz albums of the year. The DJ's from 'Mi Soul' have produced a very credible soul and soulful house compilation, whilst Noel Gourdin and Italian soul singer Al Castellana's sets are very good as well. Recommended new releases – Friday 14th February 2014
The releases may be a little light this week but the quality is high. Nostalgia 77 return with a great new set with their typical blend of laid back grooves, Crescent City funky vibes and many stops in between. The Stanton Davis release sees spacey jazz rubbing shoulders with leftfield funk on an album comprising of unreleased gems and alternate takes of tracks from his sought after Brighter Days album.
