Check out this first batch of 40 Funk and Soul albums from a new collection that has just arrived. There are some great albums here, many that we have not seen for years. All the records are at least VG+ condition (minor scuffs NAP) but most are hardly played Near Mint or Excellent condition, most sleeves have average wear for their age although some are still in shrinkwrap as individually graded. Blue Mitchell’s self titled 1971 album on Bob Shad’s Mainstream Records—often referred to as Soul Village—sees a reissue on Newland Records, a 180g package remastered by man in-demand Kevin Gray and pressed at the Pallas in Germany. There are most of the Jr Walker albums here along with many from The Jackson 5/Jacksons and Rose Royce. Ramsey Lewis – An Obituary

It was with great sadness that we at Soul Brothers learned of the passing of Jazz pianist, Ramsey Lewis.  He was 87.  Born in Chicago, Lewis learned to play the piano from the age of four.  After playing with various groups in and around his home city, he formed his own trio with bassist Eldee Young and drummer Isaac ‘Red’ Holt.  In 1956, the trio recorded its debut album, ‘Ramsey Lewis and His Gentle-Men Of Swing’ for Argo Records, the Jazz subsidiary of the legendary Chicago based label, Chess.  Lewis would go on to record over thirty albums on Argo...

Lindsey Webster – Reasons | Album of the Day

Lindsey Webster returns with another strong album. Her music bridges Soul and Jazz very effectively. Lindsey's beautiful voice is accompanied by some great musicians throughout, including long term associate Keith Slater on keyboards and T.O.P. percussionist Lenny Castro.
