Recommended releases – 17th January 2014

There are some more quality releases this week, 2014 has started well for Soul and Jazz music. Randy Muller’s Brooklyn Soul Biscuits album is finally available on CD and sounding really good. Robin McKelle has recorded a great album in Memphis . There are also good long overdue reissues from Samuel Jonathan Johnson, Woods Empire and Loleatta Holloway.
If you missed the Sharon Jones, De Robert and the Half Truths and Debra Debs
and the Mighty Mighty from last week please revisit them at this link – they are albums of real quality. The Sharon Jones comes with a free 45 which may possibly only be coming on this format: very few left now.
We are delighted to announce that the popular Soul brother Selection show returns to Solar radio on a weekly basis on Sunday 2nd February 10am-12pm playing classic 70’s Soul plus new releases and some Dancefloor Jazz.
Michael Henderson will be in store on Sat 1st march 11am to 12pm.  An hour afterwards Guida Da Palma/Jazzinho will also be in signing copies of her excellent Veludo album.
Sad to hear of the passing of Jazz Guitarist Ronny Jordan at the age of 51. Ronny was a leading light in the Acid Jazz scene in the early 90’s and his music inspired us to retrospectively check out other great players like Grant Green.
