On Saturday the 1st October we’re thrilled to be hosting the official launch of @jazzroomrecords forthcoming release and cult 1982 jazz-funk rarity Johnny Walker Advent with Jazz Room honcho and all around font of musical knowledge Paul Murphy – Insta handle @paulmurphyjazzdj .
We’ll be having a Q&A about the release, dance floor jazz and it’s history/legacy and about Paul’s life in music and career to date. It’s a free event so come down and grab a copy of the album: we’ll be the first to have them and it goes without saying that it comes recommended. The last time we saw Paul was at our Soul Brother sound system set down at the Half Moon where he put the world to rights. Expect some unparalleled insights and knowledgeable discussions from the man!
Furthermore, Johnny Walker himself will be joining us via a live link and will be talking about his music in greater detail live from the US!
Paul cut his teeth back at the Horshoe, Wag and Electric Ballroom back in the late seventies and early 80’s and is widely credited to be one of the pioneers of jazz dance culture in the UK, certainly one of the central characters behind DJing jazz in clubs which he continues to do at venues such as Brilliant Corners and The Seveney in Islington.
