Point Of No Return(French Cover)
From 1975 ‘Point Of No Return’ was The Funkees attempt to position themselves at the head of the Afro-Funk movement that saw them challenging the likes of BLO and Monomono to be the top act in Nigeria. They hit London in 1973 and absorbed all influences from Soc and Calyspo to Afro-rock and funk, presenting the world with this tight, six track offering as the fruits of their extensive labours. The title track is a bustling, energy filled polyrhythmic masterpiece, ‘Abraka’ has almost prog influences built into the African stylings while ‘Ole’ is a claustrophobic, hypnotic number. The heavily percussive ‘Dancing In The Nude’ and ‘Life’ are non stop, sweat filled grooves while ‘I Can’t Be Satisfied’ has a William Onyeabor feel in places. Superb stuff.
