This is one of the best 70’s Funk/ Soul albums of the mid 70’s. Cuts like ‘I’ll Be Your Doctor Man’, ‘I Can’t Stand This Loneliness’ and ‘Patch It Up’ mix that Southern feel with the Funk and the horns re-enforce the power of the music. ‘The Dryer’ whilst walking b-line and full horns is a powerful break, whilst ‘Don’t Tell Me Nothing About My Woman” and ‘Razorback Circus’ are great Funk tunes. Johnson’s vocal has that gruff innate soulfulness that Stax were renowned for – check the ballad ‘Something Special’. If you appreciated the Joe Quarterman and Free Soul album re-released by Soul Brother Records, then this is for you.
