Kokoroko – Could We Be More

London Jazz and Afro stalwarts Kokoroko return to Brownswood Records with their virgin album Could We Be More—following on from a number of feel good singles that enlarged their popularity over the last few years. Their Brownswood debut and pride of place on the 2018 We Out Here compilation, Abusey Junction, became a foundational track for the group, upon which the weight of expectation and calls for them to record a full length studio album—notwithstanding their most recent 12” single Baba Ayoola—grew and grew.  After a long awaited period, these calls have finally been answered as the London Octet return...

Max Roach – Members Don’t Git Weary | Album Of The Day

Max Roach – Members Don’t Git Weary (Real Gone Music) Max Roach’s 1968 post-bop classic sees a reissue on Real Gone Music. Featuring Gary Bartz on saxophone, Andy Bey on vocals, Stanley Cowell on keys, Charles Tolliver on trumpet and Jymie Merrit on electric bass, the album is an experimental and emancipating experience and a particularly exciting moment for Jazz, a civil rights era howl and an expressive, dazzling performance that turns your expectations upside down. The instrumentation, for example, is progressively electric, Stanley Cowell opting to play part electric and part acoustic piano Merrit on electric rather than upright...

Stone Alliance – Sweetie Pie | Aguabella – Ramon’s Desire (Dynamite Cuts) | Singles of the Day

Aguabella – Desire / Case Fuerte (Dynamite Cuts)   Dynamite cuts have accrued themselves a sterling reputation as a label that releases quality music on seven inch without compromise. Straddling Soul, Jazz, Rare-Groove and Latin, Malachi Trout has been hard at work licensing album cuts from the likes of James Mason, The Mighty Ryeders, Weldon Irvine and many more. The label generally reissues rare and inaccessible titles, solely on seven inch, a DJs delight and good news for the thrifty collector. The sevens always come in sealed picture sleeves with hi resolution scans of the original album artwork on and...

Denga – Robin Jones (JazzRoom Records) | Album Of The Day

Often affectionately referred to as the "Godfather of British Latin music" Robin Jones was truly one of the great performers on the international Latin scene, a multi-instrumentalist drummer/percussionist who went on to teach some of the leading lights in British percussion such as Mark “Snowboy” Cotgrove and Will Fry. His recordings and earlier tracks generated renewed interest in the London Jazz-Dance Scene in the late 70's, some of his recordings achieving iconic status on cooler floors across the capital and beyond. His legacy as a pioneer of British Latin music continues to burn brightly, garnering continued admiration from younger generations....
