Jarrod Lawson burst onto the scene with his sensational debut album in 2014, now relocated from Portland Oregan he makes his third solo album ‘Just Let It’ . It is a strong album which has a slightly different, more soul based feel than it’s predecessors. Jarrod’s distinctive vocals, harmonies and ace keyboard playing are evident throughout.
Complex rhythms feature on the excellent ‘Next Move’ duet with Raquel Rodriguez, and funkier ‘There Can Only Be One’ ft Allen Stone and superb more typically JL ‘Just Let It’ .
‘Smoke Me Out’ is a nice mid tempo message song that has a more Southern feel to it. The deep groove ‘Gentle Soul’ is another highlight.
‘Do Whatchu Gotta’ and ‘Authentically Me’ are more down tempo songs. Eric Roberson joins Jarrod on the handclappin groove ‘Laugh At Yourself ‘. To my ears the addition of raps from Jswiss are unnecessary and detract from ‘Let Your heart’ and ‘I’ll Do It Again ‘, but overall this is another strong album from an immense talent.
