Blue Note Re:Imagined | Album of the day 5th January 2020

This 16 track odyssey takes us through some blistering re-workings of classic Blue Note recordings from the far and near past, all interpreted by some of the brightest jazz artists of the current age. Jorga Smith’s pulsating take on St Germain’s club classic ‘Rose Rogue’ is a superb opener, Ezra Collective’s head nodding take on Wayne Shorter’s ‘Footprints’ while Poppy Aduja takes Hancock’s ‘Watermelon Man’ into new directions. Jordan Rakei does a great job with Donald Byrd’s ‘Wind Parade’, Nubya Garcia gives Joe Henderson’s ‘A Shade of Jade’ a funky twist while there are brilliant contributions from Yamzin Lacey, Shabaka Hutchins and Emma-Jean Thackray among others. Don’t miss this great collection.
