New releases
Producer Goldswagger has made on of the best up tempo soul albums in a while. It features some good vocalists including Maya Azucena, Honey La Rochelle, and Lisala Beatty. The recent Foreign Exchange album ‘In the land of milk and honey is now available on a limited edition Double Coloured Vinyl. The recent Christian McBride Live at the Village Vanguard is also released on a Double LP. Family Groove present another un issued Aurra set ‘Body Rock’ on CD and Very Limited Coloured Swirl Vinyl.
Comps and reissues
Al Kent’s ‘Disco Love Vol 4’ compilation is probably the best so far in the series featuring some nice Soul tracks as well as lesser known soul/disco cuts. There are some good reissue CDs from Rose |Royce, Ashford and Simpson and a good Change Double CD anthology.
New vinyl
The un-issued Larry Young – Live in Paris double CD is fantastic Organ Jazz and includes a 68 page booklet. with great photos. It is coming out on Double Vinyl on 5th Feb. Chris McGregor -Jazz/The African Sound is reissued on CD and LP by Jazzman. There are also two great James Brown Double Vinyl sets including ‘The Payback’ surely one of the best funk albums of all time.
Athens of The North limited 45s
Athens of the North have been busy with 4 new 45’s this week, the Barbara Mason is very limited and likely to sell out very quickly, so please grab your copy now before they all go. The Samuel Jonathan Johnson and Jon Lucien cuts are superb and great to see on 45. Soul Junction release a great northern soul dancer by Betty Boo.
