New releases and pre-orders 24th April 2020

It is a good week for new releases and reissues with many really nice titles this week.
Tom Misch and Yussef Dayes combine to create ‘What Kinda Music’ a very interesting album on Blue Note, available on CD, DBL Lp and Deluxe Lp with a booklet. Yasmin Lacey sounds very similar to Erykah Badu in places on her mini Album ‘Morning Matters’ it is well worth checking out.
Dego and the 2000 Black crew have made another strong album ‘Project X’ a mixture of Jazz and Broken beat. The Monophonics feature the unique vocals of Kelly Finnigan and ‘It’s only us’ is a good retro soul album. James Hunter Six go back to an early Soul/R&B sound for ‘Nick of time’.
Reissues include Patrice Rushen ‘Posh’ getting a vinyl reissue, there are 2 more Blue Note tone Poet series albums including Lee Morgan ‘The Cooker’ and back in stock now are Rodriguez epic ‘Cold Fact’, Arthur Verocai and Mr Bongo record club vol 1.

WE ARE NOW MAIL ORDER ONLY UNTIL RESTRICTIONS ARE LIFTED

As you may know the shop is now closed for walk in business to conform with the Government Covid19 regulations but we are still operating mail order services, and will do as long as we are able to. Future release dates are likely to be changeable as product supply especially from USA and Europe become harder to source due to flight restrictions.

I’d like to thank all our existing and new customers for placing orders and keeping us going through these dark times. We have introduced a new featured album of the day which you will receive each morning and give you something fresh to listen to, hopefully you will enjoy this and want to add some of the albums to your collection.

POSTAL DELAYS

We are aware that some deliveries are taking longer than usual – from what we hear this is due to a mix of Royal Mail staff shortages and industrial action. Please bear with us – these are factors that are out of our hands. We are aware that there was a significant backlog of post at our regional sorting office last week which has resulted in long delays, but parcels posted during w/c 13 April are now starting to arrive with customers, so please bear with us.

We are also running on the absolute minimum of staff so order turnaround times may also be affected for more complicated orders. Thanks for your understanding.

A THANK YOU GIFT FROM US TO YOU!

I’d like to thank all of you for your continued support and your orders which are helping us continue whilst the shop is closed during these difficult times. As a thank you we are going to be sending everybody who has placed an on-line order from the day lockdown began on 24th March until 30th April a 10% off coupon to use on an order in May. Coupons will be emailed to you on or around 1st May.

We have been featuring an album of the day each day for the past 3 weeks to keep your spirits up. Thanks for all the positive feedback we have had to this , we will continue this feature each day until we are in happier times. There have been some great new and classic albums featured which you can view here.

Last Saturday 18th April should have been Record store day which has been postponed until 20th June, but it is likely to have to be changed again, we will let you know if this happens.
Our Fill the gap campaign selecting some classic albums by genre was also very popular you can see it here

Radio Show

Our usual spot on Solar will be suspended for the time being as we practise responsible social distancing by not putting ourselves or others at risk, both by travelling to the studio and also being in the studio. We think that the health of ourselves and others while also protecting the NHS is important at this time.

We are however going to continue to bring you the best weekly releases and collector’s pieces with a weekly two-hour mix that you can find on our Mixcloud. At present we don’t have the facility to record voiceovers, but hopefully you can still enjoy the music.
