The Soul Messengers have been performing in the North East of England for decades but have only recently recorded their first album. The brainchild of Steve Lee (of Soulutions whose albums are also back in stock) , it is a very nice contemporary harmony soul album with some good up and mid tempo songs. Smooth Jazz stalwart Paul Brown returns with another strong album and pianist Cyrus Chestnut has a good contemporary Jazz album. Ace impress again with the latest volume of Masterpieces of Modern Soul Volume 6 with some good overlooked 70’s Soul. Sonny clark’s rare Blue Note album ‘Sonny Crib’ gets a elcome vinyl reissue as does Esther Marrow’s Flying Dutchman album ‘Newport News Virginia.
It’s a great week for 45 reissues. Firstly Dynamite Cuts issue Stone Alliance funky and sampled ‘Sweetie Pie’ on single for the first time.The new 45’s on Soul Brother and Expansion are finally here, and what a great batch of titles. On our label we have Tania Maria superb classic ‘Come With Me’, and Barbara Lynn super rare modern soul/crossover ‘Mellow Feeling’ .
Expansion release The 3 Pieces in demand ‘If Only I Could Prove To You’, Rance Allen overlooked ‘I Feel Like Going On/Can’t Get Enough’ and Bill Summers ‘Come Into My Life’ with a mispressed b side ‘Dream Of Love’. All five are available as regular dinked 45s or limited edition solid centre DJ Copies, the Barbara single has a limited edition of 100 numbered full centre copies.
Pre-order for the next two Expansion singles from Grady Tate and Jerry Bell due in a week or so and the next 45 on Soul Brother from Betty Everett due end of August. The Marvin Gaye 50th anniversary LP special edition of ‘What’s Going on’ is due out next friday. Check all pre-order titles here.
