There are some great albums and 45’s in this week.
British Jazz has been in the ascendancy over the last couple of years with some great new bands like Yussef Kamal and Ruby Rushton leading the way. Ezra Collective have created a super new mini album ‘Juan Pablo The Philosopher’ out now on CD, vinyl coming later. Rob Scott has a good jazzy soul album on Expansion, and Taj Mahal’s daughter Deva Mahal has a nice debut album.There are also new albums from Ernie Hawks, Kurt Elling and Bill Sharpe

There are three very different but equally strong compilations this week. Eccentric Soul – Saru label on Numero serves up some really nice rare early 70’s soul including an lost track from The O’Jays amongst other rarities. Jazzman have really gone to town with Spiritual Jazz vol 8 – Japan, a double CD and two Double Vinyl LP’s which are going to be in short supply. Martin Freeman And Eddie Pillar present Jazz on the Corner which is a good listen.
Tim Maia ‘Disco Club’ is a strong Brazilian Jazz-funk/disco set. Miles Davis and John Coltrane – The final tour is presented as a 4cd set and a single LP. There are a very few copies of Pharoah Sanders ‘Thauhid’ LP which is very limited. Carla Thomas brilliant Memphis soul set ‘Queen Alone’ gets a superb analogue vinyl release. There are some classic Reggae albums on Vinyl with very lmiited coloured vinyl releases from Bunny Wailer and Junior Murvin.
Also some great 45’s from Chuck Cissel, Donnell Pitman, L.T. and the soulful Dynamics and Keither Florence.

DETROIT RISING INSTORE EVENT
Please mark Easter Saturday 31st March in your diary as we are launching the Detroit Rising – A cosmic Jazz Funk Experience album with an in store listening party in the afternoon. We have 20 exclusive T-Shirts to give away with copies of the Vinyl LP sold on the day, and other giveaways with the CD.
RECORD STORE DAY 2018
The other major date for your diary is Saturday 21st April which is Record Store Day. We have created a feature that lists the titles that we are looking to carry (as far as we know about so far!) You can see these here. Within that you can also see the latest full RSD release schedule though it changes almost daily with new additions. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the day.
Soul Brother have two fantastic releases for RSD. Jarrod Lawson seminal self titled album makes its first appearance on vinyl as a double 180gm album with a Gatefold cover. You can see a video of the album, here. We also have Mary Clark’s rare ‘Take me i’m yours/You got your hold on me’ on a hand numbered 45.
