2012 is nearly over and there are some good new releases to see us into 2013. Drummer Drew Shultz has assembled an amazing array of Soul artists on his debut album. Ervin Pope has made a sophisticated contemporary jazz album that should appeal to smooth jazzers and new soul fans. There are also good smooth jazz albums from Mark Adams, JJ Sansaverio and Rocco Ventrella, and a great comp of 70’s material from the NY Rojac and Tayster labels.

We are saddened to learn that Marva Whitney has died this week at the age of 68. Marva was one of the leading female vocalists with the James Brown Revue in the late 60’s having toured USA, Africa and Vietnam with him. She recorded one of the all time great Funk albums ‘It’s My Thing’, whose tracks have formed the breaks for many many hip hop tunes. We feel privileged to have reissued her album on our label. Marva toured the UK in the 2000’s and made an album with the Japanese funk band Osaka Monurail.
Marva may no longer be with us in person, but her musical legacy will live on with us for many years.
