Lifestyle

Third album from Dutch Jazz Funkers Tristan and right from the off the super-tight, vintage-modern grooves kick in with the energy filled ‘I’ll be Around’ that have that Incognito meets the late 70s feel, but with a vibe that is unmistakeably Tristan. There’s a mix of soulful tracks like the excellent ‘feet Back On The Ground’ featuring Heston on vocal, and pacey, brassy jazzy funk of ‘Admiration’, the discofied ‘Lifestyle’, the sultry ‘Take Me To The River’, the Roy Ayers-esq ‘Group One’ and the mellow ‘Spirit’. One thing that marks out Tristan is their strong songwriting ability and their rock...

2Nd Phase(Signed Copy)

As the title suggests, Dutch powerhouse Jazzy Soul band Tristan have quickly followed up last year’s excellent debut with a new full length release. Kicking off in unmistakable Tristan style ‘Supersize My Sunshine’ has a strong Incognito feel: jazzy horns, bubbling percussion and those great vocals from Evelyn Kallansee combine to create a memorable, fast paced opener. ‘Hey Sister’ has a positive message atop a real throwback jazz funk sound, ‘Tune In’, ‘Running Out Of Time’ and ‘Finally Found’ (the latter also has Heston joining in on vocal duties) are more mellow: less frantic but just as strong. These guys...
